Transfers

What exactly is a Transfer?

During your ride on Public Transportation, sometimes you might be asked to "transfer" buses to get you to your destination. This is done because the bus that you are currently on does not go all the way to where you are going, but the next bus might. Whenever you need to transfer buses, you will be given a transfer from the driver.

How does this Transfer work?

Transfers are usually good for 2 1/2 hours after they are given

to you. They will be filled out by the driver, or sometimes they

will be electronically stamped from the bus. They will have the

value of fare that you paid the driveron it along with other

information.

Do I have to pay the next bus I get on?

Sometimes, if the value of your transfer is less then the bus

fare of the next bus you would have to pay the difference, if the

transfer was more you would not. For example, you have a ride

on the first bus and paid $2.25. You had to transfer buses and

that bus fare was $4.00. You would have to pay the difference of

$1.75.

Do I always get a Transfer?

SmartLink Transit does issue Transfers to all regional buses and also accepts transfers from all regional transit buses. The only time that transfers are not accepted is bus transfers from the 490 BlueXpress to the Shakopee Shuttle Fixed Route. There are also no transfers issued to the 498 BlueXpress as this is a Free ride already.
